　　His failure to observe the safety regulation resulted in an accident to the machine．

　　另外，短语anything but也表示否定，意思是"除……以外任何事（物），根本不"，"一点也不"，翻译时千万不能译为"……什么都是，除了……"。例如：

　　The bridge is anything but safe．
　　那桥一点也不安全。
